Four Day Intermediate Sailing Course

On Thursday 21st August The Top sailing instructor from Nassau, Shane Deppe and the National Junior Laser champion, Donico Brown, arrived in Governor's Harbour on the Sea Wind, complete with a Laser racing sail boat.

Boats and life vests are made ready.

Here Shane demonstrates how to hold the tiller extension and sheet on an Opti watched by our young sailors, Amard Mcklewhite and Rodney Cadet. Then Rodney has a go...

and learns how to tack. Then it's on to the water.

Two new sailors Jacqueline and Delphine joined us for the course. Daniel, already one of our best sailors, improves his sailing skills in his Opti.

We set up a practice race, with sunfish as well, watched by the two instructors.

Donico "Kobi" demonstrates the technique which made him National Junior Champion on his Laser.

Kobi again, this time with our Patrick Similien as crew in the Capri on Saturday, and enjoying a good wind on Sunday in his Laser.

Here is our Justin "Jessie" Pinder in his Sunfish.

The weather over the four days ranged from almost calm, to high winds and thunder squalls. During a social gathering on the beach on Sunday, top sailor medals were awarded to Kenneth Davis in the Opti class and his brother Kendrick Davis in the Sunfish class. Thanks to Tippy's for supplying pizzas, and a big thank you to Jimmie Lowe of the Bahamas Sailing Association for making this event happen.
