New Boats for the New Year

For the first race day of 2009 we brought out our newest sunfish, sailed by Patrick, and 2 new Lasers.

Rounding the leeward mark Justin's Laser is in the lead, with 3 sunfish in hot pursuit. Justin Pinder is in control of his laser.

Seb, who came to watch the races, got involved and won the first race, with Justin close behind.

Delphine has the lead in the opti class, but rounding the leeward mark, has Daniel giving chase.

Our three opti sailors, Kenneth, Daniel and Delphine, approaching the finish line. Delphine's tacking took first place.

The race of the day. Commodore Mark Adams challenges Justin Pinder. Mark takes the lead to the windward mark...

but Justin steals the lead with his perfected "roll tack" and heads toward the next bouy....

Mark overtook Justin, but as they approach the finish line, Justin steals Mark's wind.....

Justin proves he wants the junior laser championships (he is 16), as he passes Mark (he is 60) and heads to the finish line.
Many thanks to our Treasurer, Roderick Pinder, for the donation of the new Sunfish, and also to Skip Miller from Gregory Town for the loan of three Lasers. The Laser is an Olympic class racing boat and we will be sending competitors to the Laser Nationals in Nassau in March.
