Easter Monday 2009

Most of our races take place in the relative shelter of the Harbour, but this Easter Monday we decided to hold an adventure race out of the harbour to Receiver's Beach, about 6 miles North West. The wind was from the SSE at about 20 knots, which is a very strong wind for a small sailboat.

On the left is Delphine Carroll crossing Belara Bay where the waves are beginning to increase. On the Right is Rasheed Nelus bailing out the water from a big wave.

Delphine, left, is a long way from land and the waves are getting bigger. Rasheed is the first opti on the beach.

Overall winner was Patrick Similien in his sunfish in less than one hour with Justin Pinder in his laser second. I quote from Justin when he arrived; "those waves were really big! we were surfing! That was the greatest adventure ever!"

Commodore Mark Adams was very proud of these 4 sailors, and of Yani Bachus who had to be towed in after a capsize.

A huge thankyou to Lars Carroll and Dr Ian Gray for driving the safety boats.
